It is concerned with working stone for a wide variety of purposes. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The craft has a rich history, because natural stone has always been available to people. First they made tools from it, and later they used it for buildings, architecture, sculpture and shaping their surroundings.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The stonemason and his feel for stone<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The stonemason\u2019s work requires a deep understanding of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/marnit.at\/en\/vrste-naravnega-kamna\/\">Natural stone<\/a><\/strong>. Stone is hard and tough, but at the same time very delicate. That makes it all the more important to know the different types of stone well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The stonemason works stone by hand and with machines. Using many different tools, he first gives the stone its rough shape. Then comes the fine work: ornaments and other details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He works with many types of stone and must know the properties of each one. Protective equipment is a must, because the work is constantly hazardous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Working as a stonemason requires good fitness. The profession is strenuous and demanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Above all, it takes a great deal of patience. Some projects take months or even years, which is exactly why unique pieces are created in the end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The stonemason works with natural stone and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/marnit.at\/en\/dekorativni-kamen\/\">Decorative stone<\/a><\/strong>. From these he makes steps, balustrades, window sills, fireplaces, memorials, wall and floor coverings and many other stone products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A good stonemason is patient, persistent and precise. But he also needs an eye for beauty and a sense of art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stonemasonry today<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today too, stonemasonry plays a big part in preserving cultural heritage.
