Quartzite – a strong, hard-wearing natural stone with an elegant look
Do you know quartzite? An extremely strong rock that is becoming ever more popular thanks to its special beauty, fine texture, robustness and easy care, and is used more and more in design.
Properties and formation of quartzite
Quartzite is a metamorphic rock that consists almost entirely of the mineral quartz. Its geological life begins as grains of sand on the coast, in a desert dune or in a riverbed. The grains are compacted and cemented together, forming sandstone. High pressure and high temperatures transform the sandstone into strong, robust quartzite. These conditions arise from tectonic compression in mountain-building zones.
Why is quartzite so popular with architects and designers today? The answer is simple: it is strong, timeless, hard-wearing and versatile. Quartzite is one of the hardest and most robust stones in nature. It is extremely weather-resistant, which is why it often forms the ridges and peaks of mountains and hills.
Types of quartzite
Quartzite is usually white or grey, because quartz sand is also light-coloured. Other minerals carried in by groundwater can create green, blue or iron-red tones. At Marnit you will find many quartzite samples that bring dynamism to the architecture of your building.

Caring for quartzite
An important advantage of quartzite is that it is easy to care for. Together with its long service life, that makes it a convincing solution. A microfibre cloth and warm water are enough, and a special cleaner is even better. Just one thing to bear in mind: remove spills as quickly as possible so that nothing soaks in.
Where can you use quartzite?
Thanks to its robustness, hardness and easy care, quartzite is suitable for outdoors and indoors and for many products. Stone tools were already made from it in prehistoric times, and today it is an essential part of modern architecture.
