From floor to wall: why large-format ceramics are becoming ever more popular

For several years now, XXL ceramics have been one of the most visible trends in modern interior and exterior design.

The term refers to large-format tiles, which, thanks to their minimalist look and versatility, can be used to create elegant surfaces.

But these tiles do not just look good, they are also extremely functional.

What makes XXL ceramics special

XXL or large-format ceramics refers to slabs larger than 1 m².

Because of their size, XXL ceramics are very popular for large areas such as walls and floors in bathrooms, living rooms or offices.

However, laying XXL ceramics is much more demanding than standard formats, which makes it all the more important that truly experienced professionals do the work.

Benefits of XXL ceramics

• The large formats allow almost jointless surfaces, because there are very few joints. This gives the room an elegant, clean and modern look and makes it appear larger.
• Thanks to the few joints, care is very easy and the surface is more hygienic.
• XXL ceramics are mechanically very tough and resist wear, scratches, moisture and temperature changes.
• As they absorb hardly any water, they are also suitable for outdoors, bathrooms, spa areas and terraces.

• The visual variety is wide: many colours, finishes, patterns and looks (concrete, wood, marble and more), either matt or glossy.
• A big advantage is their slim thickness. Despite the large area, the slabs are not too heavy.
• And last but not least, they are a natural, environmentally friendly material that releases no pollutants.

Uses of XXL ceramics

Thanks to their advantages, XXL ceramics fit practically anywhere. The only requirement is that the area must be large enough.

• Living room, bathroom, kitchen, hallway – XXL ceramic floors look generous, especially in open-plan layouts.
• In bathrooms and kitchens, XXL ceramics are also very popular as wall cladding and work surfaces, because they resist moisture, stains and knocks.
• XXL ceramics are also suitable for furniture such as dining tables, kitchen islands, washbasins and fireplace surrounds, allowing modern made-to-measure pieces.
• XXL ceramics are also in demand in commercial spaces. Thanks to the few joints, the surface is very easy to clean.
• XXL ceramics are also suitable for outdoors (terrace, balcony, facade). They are weather-resistant and last accordingly long.
• Larger formats mean fewer slabs, which speeds up laying, a clear advantage any tiler will confirm.

XXL ceramics is currently one of the most popular solutions for modern interiors.

The large formats make the room look generous, beautiful and elegant and combine current trends with a timeless look.
