Memorials for eternity

Memorials made of natural stone are the most common choice to honour deceased relatives and show them respect. Made of natural stone, they stand for eternity and durability, just like the memory of those to whom they are dedicated.

Nobody looks forward to this purchase, and yet we all need a memorial at some point. Whoever it is for, it means a great deal to everyone who remembers the deceased.

At Marnit we want our memorials to tell the stories of loved ones who have passed away. That is why we work to the highest standards, so that the memorial we deliver and install lasts forever.

Why a natural stone memorial?

A memorial is exposed to all weathers, so it must be made of a resistant, robust material. That is exactly what Natural stoneis, and with its almost unlimited service life it is ideal for the purpose.

We also make every memorial entirely to your wishes. Every piece is one of a kind.

Which stone for the memorial?

When choosing a memorial, most people first think about the right type of stone. Memorials stand outdoors and are exposed to snow, rain, sun, temperature changes and ground settlement. That is why the choice of natural stone is so important.

The most common material for Memorials is still Granite. But it is not the only suitable stone. Many people choose Marble, Limestone or Sandstoneinstead. You have to touch and feel a stone before you decide.

If you know the main properties and advantages of each stone, the decision is easier.

Why granite for a memorial?

Granite is a stone for eternity and one of the most versatile natural stones, extremely resistant and high quality. It is also held in stock in large quantities and always available.

It is also suitable for memorials because it is very easy to care for and clean and resistant to dirt, impact and heat.

Admittedly, Granite is much harder to cut than marble, for example. But that also means external influences do little harm to it. Granite comes in all shades of grey, from almost white to almost black.

Limestone: a very popular choice for memorials

Limestone is somewhat more sensitive than granite. But protected by sealing, it is also suitable for outdoor use.

Its big advantage: it comes in many natural colours, especially shades of beige. It looks clean and modern, and its price is quite reasonable.

Marble: the stone of the most beautiful works of art

Marble is regarded as a very resistant, strong stone. It is somewhat more expensive, but looks delicate and pleasing. Because it is a little softer, it is easier to work, and wonderful memorials can be made from it.

Sandstone: one of the most affordable types of stone

Sandstone scores not only on price, but also on strength and weather resistance. Sandstone is extremely robust, which is particularly important for a memorial.

Cleaning and caring for memorials

Because natural stone memorials are exposed to all weathers, you should care for and clean them regularly, otherwise damage can occur. Remove soil, bird droppings and other dirt at least three times a year.

Warm water and a natural-bristle brush are enough. Simply wipe marble with a wet cloth. Do not use aggressive cleaners or home remedies containing vinegar, as they harm natural stone. There is a special cleaner for algae that removes them effectively.

We also recommend sealing the memorial every five years. This stops dirt from penetrating the stone, makes cleaning easier and keeps the stone beautiful for longer.

Made-to-measure natural stone memorials

At Marnit we do not mass-produce memorials but make each one individually to order. We do everything we can to fulfil your wishes, so that the Memorial reflects the memory of the deceased.

You have a wide choice of colours. Darker shades such as grey and black are usually chosen, but light shades such as light grey, white and brownish follow close behind.

You can choose from many shapes, from classic rounded to modern rectangular, oval or irregular. On request we incorporate special motifs. So memorials can be standard or entirely individual.

At Marnit we know how important a memorial is. We give you expert advice and support you through the whole order. First we draw the memorial according to your wishes for shape and colour, then we make it professionally and finally install it in its intended place.

We have already restored hundreds of memorials. This long tradition, our knowledge and our experience give our work the finishing touch and make it last for eternity.
